Janet Wilson

A multimedia / multidimensional artist, writer and explorer of worlds who is always adding to skillsets.

I’m a nature lover at my core. Being most at peace under a tree and perched on a beautiful boulder away from the chaos of modern life. Finding deep connections with the earth, trees, rocks, winds, suns, moons and stars.

Everything about me is creative. I need big gulps of solitude and revel in quiet to keep my balance. I am a graduate of the Art Institute of Colorado, and currently an Arizona Site Steward for Archeology and Tribal Lands.

I’m also writing a book and traveling to the remote places that are urging me into the words of it —

I’m being Beckoned to Become. I have been called out of my own shelter. I can no longer just hide.

Cave Dreams - the process

The instructions were to create what I feel about being in the caves. I hardly had words for all that I felt in those caves…I had no idea how to express that in an art piece. It had been at least 25 years since I painted on canvas. I got a brush in my hand and watercolors out, but I had no plan. Like with my writing, I didn’t know what would come, I just had to let it out: “let it happen I said to myself.”

With drips of water, I colored paper—feeling like I was in the caves. Step by step.

It was fun to wad up and crunch the two pieces while they were still wet. And I loved the effect.

Beauty was in the waded up crinkled creases, and the abandoned boundaries—no lines to color inside of!

From the darkness, it came out of hiding as a multi-dimensional collage… unlike none I’d ever done before.

Overlapping the paper and my feelings from being in the caves… my love for rocks and caves is only stronger, with deeper understanding. Adding then, Nature, dearest to my soul: driftwood, shells, rocks, sand, water, a leaf from the bush outside the studio. My hair is in between the spaces of the light and the dark; because my DNA is in this creation by my presence, and a trace must be left. I have awakened ancestral awareness and connection. The crystal realms are alive with a cotton swab, Indian handmade paper strips torn into pieces, and the repeated sprinkles of salt. Hanging, clumping, spiraling, clustering, glistening and glowing while growing.

Cave dreams

Text in the video

This is cave dreams…

Imagine,

Going deep into the bosom of the earth…

Through slits and slots and cave openings, back in through time.

Where underneath the surface is so much life.

Formations from thousands of years ago…

taking thousands of years and still forming.

A world unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

Crystals —

more than the stars in the sky.

Drips —

of water… drop by drop.

It’s a magical world down there.

Full of peace, quiet and stillness.

A creation that just keeps creating — through time.

It’s a beautiful world in the quiet stillness.

 cave dreams…

Poetic words from the soul

I come bringing…

the mysteries and magic of the crystal realms, from the chambers of the Earth’s lodestone abyss.

Hanging, rising, clumping, branching, spiraling, clustering, glistening and glowing.

In the darkness I am. Among the billions of formations—more than the stars in the sky.

With immense energy and unfathomable power…

creating, healing, exposing and expanding, while holding the space for all to find their ways.

I am the blood of the motherlode: pulsing, beating, pumping, circulating life throughout my veins.

I am the magnetic forces that guide the ways of all existence.

Drips… you can hear them all around, near and far.

Anointed by a droplet, touched to the core.

Reverence. Whispers. Secrets. Prayers. Hopes and Dreams.

You can hear them all around, near and far. Ancestors. Lifelines.

Connections from so far back there is only wonder and questions of another time…

echoes within abodes of shelter. A protective womb where there is no breath. No breeze. No light.

Yet alive, strong and seemingly eternal.

You can hear them all around, near and far… Drips… within the quiet stillness of the world below.

I come bringing the soundless essence of crystals.

I come from the darkness into the light.

I come glistening and glowing, protecting and enlightening.

I come with the guiding message of kindness, peace, love and unity for all eternity.

Transitioning

When I was two years old, I wandered off up a big hill and into a cave. I had found shelter! I have loved rocks ever since: from petroglyphs, to boulders, river rocks and gemstones. Being here was a personal cave dream come true. Pieces to the puzzle of my life fell into place for me at this residency in Spain. Realizations and remembering’s of who I really am. This experience has also led me to working with orphaned children in India through facilitating art therapy.

And there is more. I know that I knew her.

In the Cueva de Covalanas, I knew, I knew the artist. Deep within myself, as deep as the path went into the dark cave chamber, I connected with her. And I remembered that THAT day, again, my feet stood on the very clay ground that she stood on… and I just wanted to soak it all in. This is another journey, all its own.
