NAT Art Residence
The Residence
Our house is located in Tagle, Suances Town Hall, Cantabria, in the north of Spain.
We are immersed in a geographical space full of human activity for many thousands of years and with an important heritage of Palaeolithic art. Altamira, Monte Castillo and Covalanas are the best known examples of the many existing caves in the region that preserve our first works of art.
Many thousands of years ago, a first person looked for the elements, generated the pigments, elaborated the tools, selected the space, observed the environment in detail, decided that he / she wanted to capture, went into the depth and darkness of a cave and, once there, in an awkward position, he / she created. Creating means making something out of nothing.
The origin of art is what guides us in our art programs, taking it as a reference for a new beginning and nature as the starting point to achieve it.
It is always a good time to start, restart, explore changes, look for new languages, or simply step
out of our comfort zone.
Surrounded by this magic and its surroundings, our residents from all disciplines of the arts will develop their projects here.
Andrea Juan and Gabriel Penedo Diego
will carry out continuous monitoring and support on the evolution of your project to encourage and stimulate its development until, at the end of the residency, you have transformed it into a work.
The house and the surroundings
The house
has three bedrooms, a full bathroom, a toilet, a kitchen-dining room, a living room, a covered outdoor studio, an exhibition room and its own green space.
The stone house, an old farmhouse of more than 100 years, has been restored by us to provide it with all the comforts that make it comfortable to be at ease, enjoy the environment and dedicate yourself exclusively to create.
Our house is located in a wonderful natural
environment 700 meters from imposing cliffs and about 1000 meters from Tagle beach. It is located 2 km from Suances and 7 km from the Altamira National Museum in Santillana del Mar.
Sea, beach, cliffs, forests, caves, rivers ... Spaces that will be the perfect inspiration and support framework for your works.

We offer you
- Accommodation for 12 nights in a private room.
- Amenities consisting of food and cleaning supplies for individual or general use such as coffee, tea, milk, cookies, oil, rice, etc. Fresh products or those not included in the detailed list in the annex "Price and Conditions" will be paid by the resident.
- Transfer of the group to and from the city of Santander (or its airport) on your arrival and on your departure.
- Visit at the National Museum of Altamira, including tickets and transfers, accompanied by Andrea and Gabriel.
- Visits, in two days, to the caves of El Pendo, Las Monedas, El Castillo and Covalanas. Includes entrance fees, transfers and lunches and the full-time guide of Andrea and Gabriel.
- Guidance and advice in the development of your work through individual and group talks, daily visualization and monitoring of your work in progress by Andrea Juan and Gabriel Penedo Diego,
- You will be included to this site, in "Artists”, spreading the works carried out during your residency.
How to participate in NAT
Dates: Check-in will be on Mondays. In 2026 the planned dates are:
May 4 to 16 , May 18 to 30, June 1 to 13 and June 15 to 27.
We make periodic evaluations of the submissions received and allocation of places and dates.
To participate in the residency you must:
- Fill out the registration form (below) by completing:
- Personal information.
- A short CV (up to 500 words)
- A brief text about your motivation to carry out the NAT Art Residence.
- 3 images of previous works (low resolution)
- Fill in your preferred date.
- We will make a preliminary assessment of the candidates, depending on the available places.
- With the date, already agreed between us, not before, you must pay your Reservation Place or the complete fee. The place must be fully paid in advance of your arrival.
