Aya Kikkawa
Aya Kikkawa is an artist and printmaker working between Japan and Turkey.
Her practice grows out of travel and walking through different landscapes, where she observes and responds to what she encounters.
Starting with photography, her works gradually unfold through drawing and printmaking, building up layered records of these experiences.
Working across different cultural and geographical contexts, her practice reflects on movement, memory, and landscape.
The Forest, Still, Afar (The Way - 02/2026)
Winter Trees
Bare trees
endure the winter.
A wind
arrives out of nowhere,
moving
between the branches.
Trees
planted by people,
set apart
at even distances.
With time
they begin to lean.
Trees are meant
to grow straight
through the roots
entangling.
The winter air
hangs shaded brown with dust.
For a moment
blue stretches far,
mixed with green
from distant hills,
before clouds
cover it again.
Snow falls
heavy with water,
for three days.
Branches bend,
overloaded,
their dark limbs
contrast with the white drifts.
The winter trees,
standing still
for a long time,
their trunks
etched against the grey air.

The Earth Is Not A Sphere (NAT Art Residence - 09/2024)
Walk along a zigzag path.
Realize that the earth is just a rock.
The sea can be seen in the distance.
It is between micro and macro.
The waves of the Earth pushing and
being pushed, I feel life.
The scenery is monotonous.
Because for now it is all we know.
